Kolkata is perhaps the most important cultural center of India. The city is the birthplace of modern Indian literary and artistic thought and of Indian nationalism, and its citizens have made great efforts to preserve Indian culture and civilization.

Kolkata Kumar Tuli is well known for clay mask. The masks are made in clay and then sun-dried and finally colored and decorated with sponge wood or foil. Potter has been receiving a lot of attention for sculpting Bengali deities. Dokra is unique folk art of West Bengal.

Kolkata is surely a paradise for book lovers. It houses the country’s largest second-hand book market and world’s second largest. Another reason why flocks of bibliophiles come to this city all year round. Added fact, National Library is the country’s largest and oldest public library. 

The Only City To Have Trams & Tanga Asia’s oldest electric running tram is not in Mumbai or Delhi, but only in Calcutta operating across the City of Joy since 1902. Now, the bygone trams have been revamped and presented with their AC version which makes it further enjoyable and comfortable. It’s not just the trams but Kolkata is the only city in the world where you can ride on hand-pulled rickshaws, running on the city streets since the British times. 

Some lesser known facts about Kolkata which will make you swell in pride in being a Kolkatan and a part of the rich Bengali lineage.

Today we are taking a stop at “God’s own country” Kerala!

Hello, our lovely readers 🙂 Hope you’ll are doing well. This week we will be showcasing some interesting facts of Kerala and our colorful multicolor hand-designed and handmade designer kettles symbolizing gems of “Gods Own Country” Kerala.

Kerala doesn’t only showcase diversity in wildlife but is also home to diverse forms of religion. It serves as an excellent example of people belonging to different religions living together in harmony and peace. It is quite common to see a worshipping sanctuary of every religion around the corner of every street or so. It is known for traditional dance, art and culture.

Kerala also known as “the land of coconuts” It has an abundance of coconut trees. About 7.70 lakh hectares of cultivated area in Kerala is used for coconut plantation. Its production plays a vital role in the state’s economy. Even the state is named after it. ‘Kera’ stands for coconut tree whereas ‘alam‘ means land.

 Kerala shares a special bond with its elephants. The elephants play a vital role in all the religious processions and the festivals being celebrated. The state animal of Kerala is the elephant which also features in its emblem.

Kerala cuisine offers a multitude of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes prepared using fish, poultry and red meat with rice a typical accompaniment.
