Located in the northwest region of India, Punjab is known for its unique culture and tradition. The state is famous for Punjabi cuisine, agriculture, festivals, gurudwaras, Punjabi folk dances, etc. Before being enchanted by this place, let us know some interesting facts about the land of five rivers: Punjab.

Punjab has one of the oldest and richest cultures of the world. Its diversity and uniqueness is evident in the Punjabi poetry, philosophy, spirituality, education, artistry, music, cuisine, science, technology, military warfare, architecture, traditions, values and history.
Punjabis are known for their hospitality. They serve their guest their original tasty food which is very popular in the world. The popular Punjabi dishes are Chicken Tikka, Paratha with Butter, Tandoori Chicken, Amritsari Kulcha, Makke ki roti (Bread of Maize), and Sarson ka Saag (Vegetable of Mustard greens). In beverage, they include very famous ‘Lassi.’

Punjab is very famous for its folk dances such as Bhangra, Gidddha, Jhumar, Mirza, Jugni, Dhamaal, Gatka, etc.
Punjabis celebrate their festival enthusiastically. They have a number of festivals including Vaisakhi (celebrated after harvesting the wheat crop), Lohdi (celebrated in January), Holi, Maghi, Teej, etc.

The major agricultural products in Punjab comprise of wheat, maize, rice, and bajra. Among all these, wheat paramount’s the entire crop plantation whereas rice and maize are confined to few regions only. Punjab is the largest producer of wheat in India and it produces around 2 million tons every year. Punjab is also called the Granary of India or Bread Basket of India.
In the late 15th century, Guru Nanak Dev laid the foundation of Sikhism in Punjab. Punjab is the largest state of the Sikh population.
Place of The Holiest Sikh Shrine – In the city of Amritsar, the Golden Temple or Shri Harmandir Sahib is located which is considered the holiest and most important pilgrimage site of Sikhism.

Before wrapping up the blog, we would like to share with you’ll one interesting fact. Before the partition of India in 1947, Punjab was a large state in British India. After Partition, Punjab divided into two regions; Indian Punjab and Pakistani Punjab.
